DESCRIPTION: EPW - Millidge & Son, 28 Princes St, Edinburgh marked pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, duo-in-uno hairspring and 30-hour winding indicator, likely made by A.P. Walsh, London, 55mm, very heavy 18K gold original HC bearing London hallmarks for 1871, "G . A . P" marking in oval cameo for casemaker George Augustus Potter, gold cuvette, white enamel DS dial, KWKS, capped spring detent escapement, likely 14-15J, free-sprung balance with duo-in-uno hairspring, gilt mvt, s#2155 with matching serial number to dial. Gross weight of assembled watch 100.1 dwt (155.7 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous gilt surfaces with few minimal micro-fine scratches, foot of balance cock with a very short scratch and some pinpoint nicks; dial with light hl at 8:30, very faint hl outside lower right of indicator-register, indicator-register possibly re-pasted as small amount of white material is visible at its seat; excellent hands; case shows ample wear, cuvette with a fine scratch from a past slip while setting, few slight nicks to front, small dent to upper left perimeter of rear, greatly reduced engine turning detail with full loss to much of front and loss of rear shoulder; tight bow with darkened portions to its upper underside which are likely evidencing a past repair using gold solder of different alloy composition; good glass crystal.
